Trademark Registration in Rwanda: Requirements and Procedure

Trademark registration requirements in Rwanda:

Ø Power of attorney simply signed. 

Ø Design of the trademark in JPEG format in case of a graphical trademark (not required for word mark).

Ø The details of goods and/or services for witch the trademark will be registered or the classes in case they are known. 

Ø Details of the trademark owner (name, address, registration number).

Ø Invoicing details (name, address, fiscal number, registration number). 

Ø Certified copy of priority document in case priority is to be claimed.
All the documents must accompany the application when it is filed.

Trademark registration procedure in Rwanda:

The registration procedure lasts 12 - 18 months. The protection is unlimited. There is no opposition period.

Other trademark procedures in Rwanda:

Trademark renewal in Rwanda: There is no renewal procedure.
Trademark change in Rwanda: For the change of name or address we need the power of attorney simply signed, the certificate of change of name and the original certificate registration for endorsement.
Trademark assignments in Rwanda: For the assignment we need the power of attorney simply signed, the deed of assignment with verified French translation and the original certificate of registration for endorsement.
