Trademark Registration in Zimbabwe: Requirements and Procedure

Trademark registration requirements in Zimbabwe:

Ø Power of attorney simply signed. 

Ø Design of the trademark in JPEG format in case of a graphical trademark (not required for word mark).

Ø The details of goods and/or services for witch the trademark will be registered or the classes in case they are known. 

Ø Details of the trademark owner (name, address, registration number).

Ø Invoicing details (name, address, fiscal number, registration number). 

Ø Certified copy of priority document in case priority is to be claimed.

Ø Declaration whether the mark is in use or intended to be used in Zimbabwe.

Trademark registration procedure in Zimbabwe:

The registration procedure lasts 2 – 3 years. The protection lasts 10 years from the filing date. Also the protection can be obtained through filing at ARIPO.

Trademark renewal in Zimbabwe: The trademark renewal may be done within 12 months before expiry
Trademark assignment in Zimbabwe: For the trademark assignment we need the power of attorney simply signed by the assignee and the deed of assignment signed by the assignor and assignee.

Ø If priority claimed, Priority document together with certified English translation

Granting:

10 years

Renewals:

For periods of 10 years
